The League of Women Voters of Chicago presented Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias with its “Making Democracy Work” Award.
The group honored Giannoulias for his role in crafting and passing landmark legislation aimed at banning book bans in Illinois earlier this year.
The first-in-the-nation initiative has served as a model for other states in the fight against censorship and intimidation that libraries and librarians have faced nationwide. Giannoulias serves as the State Librarian.
