WMAY’s Last Night-in-Sports Report: 05/03/2023

The Chicago White Sox earned their 2nd walk-off win in a row as they defeated the Minnesota Twins in 10 innings last night at the Rate 3-2 the final. Andrew Benintendi provided the game-winning hit for the Sox. Sox and Twins tangle again tonight at the Rate.

A Patrick Wisdom solo homer was all the offense the Chicago Cubs could muster last night in the Nation’s capital as they fell to the National’s 4-1 the final. Keegan Thompson took the loss in relief for the Cubs. Cubs and Nats battle again tonight in DC.

Andrew Knizner drove in the St. Louis Cardinals’ only run last night as the Cards fell to the LA Angels at Busch 5-1 in the final. With the loss, the Cards are now 10-20 on the season. The Cards and Angels go at it again tonight at Busch.

In the NBA playoffs last night, the LA Lakers took a 1-0 lead over the Golden State Warriors with a 117-112 victory. Elsewhere the New York Knicks tied up their series with the Miami Heat at a game apiece with a 111-105 win.

And – in the NHL playoffs – Joe Pavelski scored 4 goals, but it wasn’t enough as the Dallas Stars fell to the Seattle Kraken 5-4. In other playoff action last night the Florida Panthers continued their winning ways defeating the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-2.
