U.S. Senator Dick Durbin is calling on the video game industry to do more to block extremist content from their platforms.

Durbin says hate groups often use online gaming to promote racist ideas and recruit people to their ideology.

He notes the gunman in a deadly mass shooting in Buffalo, New York, last year used the streaming platforms Twitch and Discord to plan and livestream his attack, and said he became more interested in guns and violence through the games he played on those platforms.

Durbin says among the games most often used by extremist groups are Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, and World of Warcraft.
