The University of Illinois Flash Index increased in February from 103.1 to 103.4.

Any reading over 100 signifies growth, but lower numbers indicate a slower rate of growth. U of I economists say the uptick reflects continued strong tax revenues for the state.

But overall, the numbers are part of an ongoing mixed bag of economic indicators that experts say make it impossible to tell if the state is headed toward a modest recession or will instead see a “soft landing,” where inflation comes down without causing an economic crash.
