Illinois State Police are investigating an incident in which a suspect armed with a machete was fatally shot by police in Stark County, near Peoria.

Officers were attempting to execute search and arrest warrants at a home in Toulon when they encountered the resident, 66-year-old Rodney Williams.

Police say Williams had a machete and swung it at officers.

Police opened fire, striking Williams, who was pronounced dead a short time later at a nearby hospital.

No police officers were injured. State police investigators will refer their findings to the Stark County State’s Attorney.
