The top federal prosecutor in Chicago has been assigned to investigate the discovery of around ten classified documents in a closet at a Washington, D.C. office used by President Biden in the years after he served as Vice President in the Obama administration.

Lawyers for Biden immediately contacted the National Archives and returned the documents after they were discovered.

U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois John Lausch was named by Attorney General Merrick Garland to look into how those documents wound up at the Penn Biden Center and whether a special counsel is needed in the investigation.
