A new memorial in Washington, D.C., will honor the contributions of women who worked on the home front to help the war effort during World War II… under a new law co-sponsored by U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth.

The Illinois Democrat, who was sworn in this week for her second term, co-sponsored the bill with two Republican senators, Marsha Blackburn and Mike Braun. President Biden signed the measure into law.

The memorial will honor the contributions of an estimated 18 million American women who stepped into roles ranging from pilots and engineers to letter carriers and code breakers between 1941 and 1945.
