Rockfeed and Metal Injection covered the unfortunate news that System of a Down’s Serj Tankian is “not very interested” in a possible tour that some fans were hoping for in 2023. Tankian in the same interview elaborated that a recent back surgery and the redundancy of touring show after show wears on him as deterring from hitting the road the hard rock band but he did say he could possibly be down bigger shows that are spread out. So maybe some big festival dates?

SOAD did break their hiatus since 2005 on making new music with the charity single ‘Genocidal Humanoidz’ and ‘Protect the Land’ which benefits victims of the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war. The songs really do have the stern double-vocal harmonies of Tankian and Daron Makakian with an anthemic of defiance that the band has been known for.

There was rumblings with fans that SOAD could be doing a tour or possibly a new album despite well-publicized differences in the band. This wave of speculation was ramping after a big announcement for next year coming together in the past few years.
