Amid unusual fluctuations in local COVID case counts, Sangamon County remains at a low level of community transmission of the virus. But two nearby counties are at a medium risk.
After seeing 178 new confirmed cases Thursday, the highest one-day total in months, Sangamon County reported only nine new cases Friday. It’s not clear why the local numbers are seeing such wild swings.
Meanwhile, Morgan and Scott counties are at a medium transmission level, based on an elevated number of hospital admissions for COVID patients in those counties.
