Illinois’s economy is still growing… but the pace of growth continues to slow down.

The University of Illinois Flash Index slid again in September, continuing a gradual decline that has lasted for most of 2022. The index measures economic activity in the state by looking at several metrics, including personal income, consumer spending, and corporate earnings. The index fell in September to 104.1, down from 104.5 in August.

Any number above 100 still signals growth, but the index has steadily fallen from a peak of around 106 early in the year.
