Sangamon County is paying a Springfield law firm up to $24,000 to conduct investigations of complaints with the county’s animal control division.

The contract with Stratton Reichert references “loss control services,” which the firm describes as investigations and other services to help the employer… in this case, the county… reduce the likelihood of litigation. Since entering into that agreement in January, the firm has brought in former county chief deputy Joe Roesch (RUSH) to conduct two investigations stemming from complaints by animal control employees. In both cases, Roesch found no wrongdoing on the part of animal shelter staff who were the targets of the complaints, but did find that the actions of the employee who made the complaint may warrant further investigation.
