The first ordinance to ban flavored tobacco products in Illinois took effect earlier this week in Evanston.

The ban – which began this past Tuesday – covers all flavored cigarettes, vaping pens, and rolling papers.

The city passed the ban last November in an effort to discourage tobacco use because of its health risks.

Retailers say they worry about losing sales to stores that can still sell flavored tobacco products in nearby communities.
