Illinois Farm Bureau looking towards U.S. Department of Energy and others to reward conservation-minded farmers across state with tax credits

drought, seeding, dust, Illinois

Illinois Farm Bureau’s environmental team continues to keep tabs on potential tax credits for conservation-minded farmers as the countdown for federal guidelines nears.

Much hope is resting on whether the IRS and U.S. Department of Energy decide to reward farmers for their contributions to renewable energy, such as ethanol derived from crops like soy and corn.

The model, outlined at the meeting by Michael Wang of Argonne National Laboratory, will measure conservation practices related to biofuels from the cradle to the grave.

David Isermann – a member of the environmental team – explained that, since farmers are part of that aforementioned life cycle, they also hope to benefit from credits.
