Institutions across Central Illinois continue looking for volunteers and workers as local unemployment rates in many areas remain low

Many businesses and agencies continue to struggle to find workers as they search to fill vacant openings.

Volunteer fire departments are one of many struggling to find
help right now.

In Macon County, departments have noticed in recent years that the rosters of volunteers have dwindled – while the call volume has steadily increased.

Chief Kurt Michener of the Argenta-Oreana Fire Protection District said that while he still has a fair number of people on the district’s roster, attendance has dropped over the past several of years.

South Macon Fire Department also offers an auxiliary force for those interested in participating.
