With the winter storm, which brought extreme cold over the weekend persisting into the week, schools throughout Central Illinois will be closed on Tuesday.

Temperatures improved on Monday compared to the weekend, but the National Weather Service has issued a warning indicating wind chill temperatures as low as -30°F in Sangamon County.

As a result, many schools across the Springfield, Sangamon County, and Central Illinois area have chosen to issue announcements that they will either be on remote learning schedules or will be fully closed on Tuesday, January 16.

Visit your school district’s website for specific details about closures.
