Sunday brought the first accumulating snow of the season for several towns in Central Illinois. Locally, Lincoln received nearly two inches.
The Illinois State Police warns motorists that roads are still damp from Sunday’s precipitation. Nighttime temperatures will be below freezing for the next couple of days and black ice could form on local roads, especially on bridges.
Experts say that drivers who encounter black ice should not hit the brakes, but rather get off the gas and keep the steering wheel straight.
Gusty winds are expected to bring wind chills in the single digits the next two nights and temperatures are not expected to rise above freezing until Wednesday afternoon.
