Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon has confirmed the death of 34-year-old Jonathan Mendenhall of Springfield.
Mr. Mendenhall was found unresponsive outside of a residence Sunday afternoon.
News media report that a dog attacked good Samaritans trying to revive Mendenhall as well as the victim himself, until police arrived and shot the animal.
Emergency room staff at HSHS St. John’s Hospital pronounced him dead. The coroner has yet to release the cause of death.
