General Motors and Ford will be laying off nearly 500 additional employees.

Some of the affected workers are at Ford’s Chicago Heights metal stamping facility.

The layoffs in Chicago Heights are the direct result of UAW’s announcement Friday of an expansion of the strike to include a Chicago assembly plant.

Mack Trucks avoided a strike by reaching a deal with the UAW on Sunday night.
