The Sangamon County Juvenile Detention Center was the scene of a fatal shooting Saturday night around 7:45 p.m.
Springfield Police noted that one shot was fired at a man armed with a weapon and standing at the entrance of the building.
The victim died after being transported to HSHS St. John’s Hospital; a second person who was shot received non–life–threatening injuries.
The Springfield County Coroner confirmed on Sunday that a 17-year-old had died in the aftermath of the violence, and that an autopsy was scheduled for Monday; WMAY will have more information as more becomes available.
