A New Jersey-based company has announced that it intends to begin manufacturing operations at the Akorn Pharmaceuticals plant in Decatur.
The facility was abruptly closed last February, throwing more than 400 employees out of work with only a few days’ warning. Rising Pharmaceuticals announced that they plan to use the former Akorn building to make and package sterile products, including injectables and ophthalmic products in the 230,000 square foot facility.
Rising Pharmaceuticals produces more than 180 commercialized generic medicines. The Decatur plant will be the company’s second manufacturing facility.
