The Illinois Supreme Court entered an order to help the court system implement the pretrial release provisions of the SAFE-T Act.

The SAFE-T Act requires Illinois circuit courts to conduct detention hearings, in many instances, within 48 hours of a defendant’s arrest.

Due to the anticipated volume of investigations and hearings on pretrial detention beginning September 18 and the current limited resources of circuit courts, the Supreme Court has authorized courts to conduct those hearings with the use of two-way audio-visual communication systems rather than in person.
