Block Club Chicago reports that a new hotline has been set up to schedule hospital appointments for local and traveling patients who need specialized and life-saving reproductive care.

Certain health conditions such as high blood pressure and anemia may require that an abortion be performed in a hospital setting. The new program – known as CARLA – will make it easier for those traveling from other states to get hospital appointments when they can’t receive care at abortion clinics.

In the year before Roe v. Wade was overturned, the Chicago Abortion Fund supported 26 callers from five states who needed hospital-based abortion care; in the year since, the organization received more than 250 calls from 19 states seeking hospital-based abortion care.
