Chatham police are sounding the alarm about drunk driving in the community.

In a Facebook post, the Chatham Police Department says it’s averaging roughly two DUI arrests a week, a number it calls alarming in a town of just between 13,000 and 14,000 people.

Newschannel 20 reports that Sangamon County officials are also concerned, noting that DUI incidents tend to be higher during the summer months.

Authorities say it’s essential to not get behind the wheel impaired but also to discourage friends and loved ones from driving under the influence.
