Both sides are still talking in an effort to reach an agreement on a plan to keep a major downtown hotel open. And the head of the Springfield Sangamon Growth Alliance says as long as they’re talking, there’s reason for hope.

Efforts to strike a deal on the use of city incentives to help with the renovation of the Wyndham City Centre hit a wall a few weeks ago, when new Mayor Misty Buscher downsized the amount of money the city was willing to commit to the project.

Growth Alliance CEO Ryan McCrady tells WMAY that he believes the two sides can find a middle ground that would allow the project to proceed. Meanwhile, McCrady says there’s also progress on obtaining financing for the Scheels Sports Park at Legacy Pointe.

But the clock is still running toward a late July deadline for the developers and the city to carry out their obligations under a recent agreement and break ground on the site.
