Unemployment continues on decline across Illinois in May

Unemployment continues to gradually decline in Illinois, as the state saw a modest job increase in May.

The statewide jobless rate fell to 4.1%, down from 4.2% in April and 4.4% in May of last year. Total jobs in the state grew by 2,500 over the previous month. And, over the last 12 months, Illinois has added 120,000 total jobs.

Last month’s biggest job gains were in government, financial activities, and hospitality and leisure, but the state saw declines in construction and manufacturing in May.
