The regional blood donation agency says the summer months are a time when blood supplies may be diminished – just as the need for blood is likely to go up.

ImpactLife notes that donations often drop during the summer because people are traveling or otherwise occupied.

But the summer season is also “trauma season,” when warm-weather activities can lead to an increase in traffic accidents, injuries, and other emergencies that require immediate blood transfusions.

The agency notes that only 5% of the eligible population donates blood, and is asking others to step up and ensure an adequate supply for the months ahead.
