Illinois Republicans say they want more opportunities to participate in state budgeting process

As Illinois Democrats continue work on a new state budget, Republican lawmakers are calling for a seat at the table.

It’s a common complaint for the GOP, which has had superminority status in the General Assembly for years. But Republican leaders say they can contribute to the process and should be allowed more opportunity to participate.

The House and Senate return to Springfield Wednesday to resume work on a spending plan for the fiscal year that starts July 1.
