The former director of Lincoln Library says the city of Springfield needs to find a new funding source for library operations.
Summer Griffith is speaking out about library needs after she was dismissed by new mayor Misty Buscher. Griffith says the main source of library funding, the telecom tax, is shrinking rapidly as more people abandon landlines.
She thinks the city should allocate a portion of property taxes to library operations.
That could be easier said than done, as most city property tax revenue goes to pay for police and firefighter pensions.
