Springfield Mayor Misty Buscher is not offering any more explanation for her decision to fire the director of Lincoln Library and another top library staffer.
Summer Griffith was informed Monday that her services are no longer needed, but says no other reason was given for the decision.
A spokesperson for Buscher says a nationwide search will get underway to find a library director with a library sciences degree, something Griffith did not have. The spokesperson says that will ensure the library doesn’t miss out on any grant funding opportunities.
Meanwhile, the library’s community engagement manager, Hillary Rains, has also been dismissed. Rains had taken the lead in getting library staff to sign a letter in support of keeping Griffith on.
Buscher’s office won’t comment on whether that prompted Rains’s firing.
