Dozens of firefighters from Highland Park are being honored for bravery and valor in their response to last year’s deadly Fourth of July parade shooting.

They were among firefighters from around the state who were recognized for acts of courage during ceremonies this week at the State Capitol.

More than 20 personnel from Highland Park were given the state’s Medal of Valor, while more than a dozen others received the Firefighter Excellence Award.

Governor JB Pritzker and State Fire Marshal James Rivera were on hand to bestow the honors.
