The appeals court ruling that reinstated Illinois’s assault weapons ban may create new legal complications for gun owners.
After a federal judge issued an injunction against the state ban, gun purchasers were able to legally start the process of buying assault weapons covered under the ban.
But when the appeals court stayed that ruling, those transactions were put on hold. Illinois State Police say those transactions cannot legally be completed at the moment.
Gun shop owners who are suing over the ban are advising purchasers to sit tight for now while the legal fight continues.
