A Beardstown city worker has been arrested on charges of theft and official misconduct.

The arrest of 41-year-old Melissa Espinoza resulted from an investigation launched in January by Illinois State Police at the request of Beardstown city officials.

State police obtained a search warrant Monday and Espinoza was booked on two counts of theft and one count of official misconduct. A press release from Illinois State Police did not indicate how much money was involved or what position Espinoza had with the city.

Espinoza is currently free after posting 10% of a $100,000 bond.
