Another major road project impacting Springfield drivers gets underway Monday

Beginning on Monday, Stanford Avenue will be closed between 11th Street and Fox Bridge – adjacent to Bunn Park -for a major roadway improvement project.

The work will turn that stretch of Stanford from a narrow oil-and-chip road into a major east-west thoroughfare, with new curbs, sidewalks, and a multi-use trail.

The first phase of the project will be the construction of underground storm sewers. The road closure is expected to last until August 2024.

People who live along that stretch of Stanford will still have access to their homes, but the status of the work will determine whether that access will be from the east or west end of the construction zone.
