WMAY’s Last Night-in-Sports Report: 04/27/2023

The Chicago White Sox losing ways continued yesterday in Toronto as they were shutout by the Blue Jays 8-0 the final. The loss was the Sox 7th straight. The Sox look to snap that streak tonight when they return home to the Rate to host the Tampa Bay Rays. First pitch scheduled for 6:10p CT.

The St. Louis Cardinals also lost again yesterday as they fell to the Giants in San Francisco 7-3 the final. Paul Goldschmidt did all he could for the Cards going 4 for 5 with double, 2 homers and 2 driven in. The Cards look to salvage the last game of the series with the Giants this afternoon in San Francisco.

Two runs in the top of the 7th inning by the visiting San Diego Padres ended up being the undoing of the Chicago Cubs last night at Wrigley as they fell to the Padres 5-3 the final. Trey Mancini homered and drove in 2 for the Cubs in the loss. Cubs and Padres wrap up their series this afternoon at Wrigley.

The NFL Draft is tonight as the Chicago Bears – who originally owned the number 1 overall pick – will be selecting 9th overall after their trade with the Carolina Panthers last month. The NFL draft gets underway at 7p CT.

NBA playoffs last night Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat sent the Milwaukee Bucks home with a 128-126 OT victory. The New Knicks also ended the Cleveland Cavaliers season with a 106-95 victory. Elsewhere the Memphis Grizzlies stayed alive with a 116-99 win over the LA Lakers and the Golden State Warriors took a 3-2 series lead with a 123-116 victory over the Sacramento Kings.
