A group of conservative Illinois lawmakers is calling on Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias to end a policy of requiring people to wear masks while taking a driving test.

The Illinois Freedom Caucus sent a letter to Giannoulias saying there is no reason for such a policy in 2023 – and saying that making a young driver wear a mask during the driving test is “excessive at best and dangerous at worst.”

A spokesperson for Giannoulias says the office has put measures in place to protect both its employees and the general public, and will leave those measures in place until the declared public health emergency officially ends on May 11.
