A documentary short about a history-making Central Illinois community will premiere this weekend in Springfield.

A screening will be held Saturday for “New Philadelphia, Illinois: A Racially Diverse Community on the Illinois Frontier.”

The town was established in 1836 by a man known as “Free Frank” McWorter, and it was the first American town to be laid out and legally registered by an African American.

The video was put together for the “Looking for Lincoln Stories” project, to highlight other aspects of the history of the 43-county Abraham Lincoln National Heritage Area.

The documentary will be shown at 2 pm Saturday at Lincoln Home Visitors’ Center on South Seventh Street.
