The controversial social media app TikTok which has been accused of data mining it’s massive amount of data from it’s users including many Americans and as a Chinese company they could required to share that data with the Chinese government, is facing bi-partisan pressure from elected officials to possibly ban it in the United States. CNBC has more insight on the situation in the video above.

TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew is set to testify in front of Congress today as the company and the powerful app try to fight off the ban and support the many businesses working off the scrolling video platform. Chew himself posted on TikTok seeking support from the 150 million users across the country.

TikTok has also reportedly made moves with a ban hanging over a sizeable portion of it’s user base to fight off misinformation and the ability of users to have better use of their algorithm settings.

There is currently no defined timeline for this legislation to be processed or how it would be implemented.
