More than 100 Illinois churches and non-profit organizations have received state grants to bolster security measures at their facilities.
A total of $20 million has been awarded to facilities that are considered to be at high risk of a terrorist attack, including houses of worship, cultural organizations, and reproductive health providers.
Most of the grants are going to the Chicago area. No Springfield organizations received funding, but some Downstate groups did receive grants – including nearly $150,000 each to Catholic, Lutheran, and Islamic facilities in Peoria and almost $10,000 to a Christian broadcaster in Quincy.
