Fire has heavily damaged a vacant home on Springfield’s far east side.
The blaze broke out Monday in a two-story home on Niccolls Road.
There was heavy fire on both floors when crews arrived.
Because the nearest hydrant was more than 2,000 feet away, firefighters established a water relay system to begin trying to put out the fire. Several portions of the structure collapsed before the fire was brought under control.
No injuries were reported; there is no word yet on the cause of the fire.
