A Springfield man has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison on federal drug charges. 32-year-old Kenneth Neal had been charged with distributing heroin in late 2019 and early 2020.

He will begin serving his federal sentence after completing a term in the Illinois Department of Corrections, where he is currently incarcerated on state charges.

In an unrelated case, the U.S. Attorney’s office says a Springfield woman has been sentenced to three years’ probation on federal wire fraud charges for fraudulently obtaining pandemic relief funds.

43-year-old Amber Bolen claimed she needed the money for a limousine business with 11 employees – but no such business ever existed.
