Illinois State Police have rolled out a new flag for the patrol area that includes Sangamon County.

Effective January 1st, the department reorganized from 21 state police districts to 11 patrol “troops” in an effort to increase coverage and have more officers on the road at a given time.

State police say the reorganization is already paying off. In Troop 6, there were 33 percent more enforcement actions and 34 percent fewer crashes in January compared to the same month one year ago.

Sangamon is one of 12 central and west-central Illinois counties in Troop 6.

The new flag, called a guidon, is green and gold and depicts a trooper hat and badge.
