Illinois State Police have been called in to investigate a shooting death in Christian County.

The incident happened around 5:20 am Monday, as a woman was leaving her home with her juvenile daughter.

She noticed that a work truck in the driveway belonging to the male resident of the home was running.

She called the man to notify him of her concern that someone was trying to steal the vehicle. The man came out of the home with a firearm. As the woman attempted to leave in her car, authorities say 46-year-old James Lindsey of Taylorville rammed her car with the work truck.

The male resident of the home opened fire, fatally shooting Lindsey. The man and woman called 911 and stayed at the scene until emergency crews arrived.

No charges have yet been filed.

State Police will forward the results of their investigation to the Christian County state’s attorney.
