It’s been three years since the first case of COVID-19 was diagnosed in Illinois – and the virus is still spreading through the state, despite that the rate has slowed.

As of Friday, no Illinois county is at a high rate of transmission for COVID, with 20 counties listed as “medium.”

Sangamon County is at a low rate of transmission, but state officials say there were two more COVID-related deaths in the county in the past week.

Sangamon County has had more than 75,000 confirmed cases of the virus since 2020, and the state total has now surpassed 4 million.
