Big donations are coming in to support local causes here at the holidays.

Springfield Plastics has given another $130,000 to the Simmons Cancer Institute as part of the company’s “Drain for the Cure” initiative. Since it began in 2014, donations from Springfield Plastics employees, customers, and vendors have totaled more than $675,000 to support cancer research and patient services.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday the Illinois Pork Producers Association commemorated a milestone… reaching a total of one million pounds of pork donated to food banks around the state. The Pork Power program was established in 2008 and in that time has made more than three million servings of pork available to households in need through food banks and pantries around the state.
