Objections have been filed against petitions for two of the candidates seeking to run in next year’s Springfield city elections.

Petitioner Jason Mendonca has filed an objection against Calvin Pitts, one of three candidates to file for alderman in Ward 5. And Nicholas Austin is challenging the petitions of Jaleesa Davis, one of the three contenders for the open seat in Ward 7.

The city Election Commission — consisting of Mayor Jim Langfelder, City Clerk Frank Lesko, and the alderman who has served the most years, currently Chuck Redpath —  will conduct hearings into whether the candidates have enough valid signatures. That hearing has not yet been scheduled.
