The new changes to the Illinois law ending cash bail on January 1st has led to a delay in an ongoing court case challenging that law.

More than 60 state’s attorneys… including Dan Wright in Sangamon County… have sued alleging the SAFE-T Act is unconstitutional because it takes away a judge’s discretion in setting bail.

Last week, Illinois lawmakers approved changes to clarify some of the issues surrounding cash bail. Now a hearing on the lawsuit that had been scheduled for Wednesday has been pushed back to December 20th, with a ruling likely the following week… just days before the new law is set to take effect.
