While Springfield Mayor Jim Langfelder pushes aldermen to voice support for a casino license for downtown Springfield, Langfelder’s opponent in the spring election says she doesn’t think downtown is right for a casino.

Misty Buscher says for a casino to make sense, it needs to be big and have plenty of extra amenities, like an amphitheater for live shows. She says there isn’t enough room for such a facility downtown.

And while she says she would be open to such a casino in other parts of town, she doesn’t want to draw business away from local establishments that rely on video gaming for revenue. Buscher says there are other priorities that would come first if she’s elected mayor… such as encouraging state officials to build a hotel on the Illinois State Fairgrounds that could increase the number of events there.
