This is National Fire Prevention Week… and the Springfield Fire Department is urging you to take it seriously.
The theme this year is “Fire won’t wait… plan your escape.” Fire officials say that taking steps to remove fire hazards is important, but it’s just as important to make sure you have a plan in place if fire does break out.
That includes ensuring there are working smoke detectors in every sleeping room, outside every sleeping area, and on every floor of the house… and if possible, to have them interconnected so that if one goes off, they all go off. It’s also important to have an escape plan that works for everyone in the household, including those with physical or other disabilities. Learn more about Fire Prevention Week at fpw.org.
