Authorities in Montgomery County say a 14-year-old boy has died of what appears to be an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The incident happened on September 10th, when the sheriff’s department responded to a 9-1-1 call from a home in rural Litchfield. They found the victim, 14-year-old Austin Robinson of Waggoner, a town about 30 miles south of Springfield. He was taken to a hospital in Litchfield and later transferred to St. Louis, where he died of that single gunshot wound.

The sheriff’s department says its investigation and the findings of a Missouri medical examiner determined that the shooting was self-inflicted, but accidental.
