Treatment for gender dysphoria could be covered under the health plan for Springfield city employees… under proposed changes that have gone before the City Council.

Aldermen will vote next month on the proposed new premiums and benefits offered to employees and retirees. Health coverage costs would go up around one-dollar per pay period for employees, with family coverage increasing around two-dollars per pay.

Retirees would see an increase of four to ten dollars per month. In addition to offering treatment for gender dysphoria… the term for when a person’s gender identity does not match their sex at birth… the revised health plan would also increase the amount of coverage for infertility treatments from $10,000 to $25,000.
